a question good sir, When radio stations have callers request songs, are there any licensing reasons (or similar) as to why they can’t play a song ? My example; Was listening to KROQ and they played a new (at the time) song from a band that typically doesn’t get any radio play On the next hour (almost to the exact 60 min) as they were taking requests, I had requested that song to be played and was told “I’ll see what I can do”

Thanks for the explanation, the thing I hated most about some radio stations is how they cut the song short near the end when it’s the outro music of the song, Also hated when the host would talk over the end of the song too, It was best when they ran six packs of songs before having a commercial break, Thx to modern day technology and premium services, I have no ads, just my music, it’s great! Now on to find out why the UA-cam playlist shuffler doesn’t actually shuffle properly,

This video doesn't explain radio like it should. Oh, it explains networking through a formula very well. In this day, ALL stations are LOP formats. All metro and micropolitan areas are guarded by one of the four main big radio corps. LOP is what drives their formats. And, WOW songs are used sparingly.

i am a fan of em for 5 years now and every time i listen to em i just thank god that i had the chance to randomly discover them one day. they are super talented and got a rich old soul. JJ’s voice is so powerful and strong. and they cant make a bad song ! its just perfect ❤

I get that the "backing vocals" by Moa and Yui and the way they're used in the songs aren't for everybody. Personally I don't think I particularly liked that when I started listening to them either but liked everything around them so much that I've grown more and more accustomed to them and for me they're now just part of the package and I couldn't imagine their songs without it.

Even though this video is 3 years old now since I just watched it, it seens I just now understand why radio stations play the same songs.

Are you deaf? Yui and Moa sing a TON in this song. If you can't hear them harmonizing with Su throughout the song, then you really are deaf. Maybe, don't spend so much time comparing the music to DF and actually listen to the vocals. Unbelievable.

I am surprised by your reaction. You clearly are an astute student of metal, and you're really sensitive/intuitive in your reaction. Yet, higher pitched vocals seem to violate some expectations you have for what metal "should sound like." I argue that those high voices are what make this metal music better and more innovative than most (if not all) other metal acts. This song in particular tells me that high pitched, feminine voices are just as bad ass as any screaming man/cookie monster voice heard elsewhere.

I also learned a lot. Are not people calling in saying what they want and you have made a programming decision to not listen to that? Seems the focus group is far more important than the actual listeners. Let me guess the ask for Enter Sandman because that’s the only Metallica song they know. How about this? No Foo Fighters Friday? No Metallica Monday? No Nirvana(today). I doubt you would get one complaint about that. I’m fortunate the station listen to plays commercials at :15 and :45. As soon as hear the SAME morning show bit start I take out my ear buds. ad $$$$ wasted on me. Yea I miss songs though. Then again it’s the SAME Lincoln Park song. Why can’t I get 1 new song an hour in the overnight? Would that really send the old people (I’m 63) scouring for cover. Sad thing is all program directors are trained the same way. So you get the same thing at different stations. Would be so bad to throw in new Disturbed or some Dorothy? When you don’t respond to your customers you lose them.

This has some great content. I learned quite a lot and appreciate it. I will say I hate radio but have always been curious the mindset that takes place in creating a playlist that people won't get offended by. I work at this place and am making a playlist, just because people fight over the music all the time. It annoys me so I figured being a music nerd, I'd make a playlist that combines deeper cuts with radio-friendly stuff I never hear get played. Thanks for the video it quite helped me in getting a better understanding of radio people's jobs
